TEHRAN: American actor and filmmaker Sean Stone along with the actor Val Edward Kilmer have been selected to star in a major Iranian cinematic project.
Both actors are slated to appear in a true story inspired movie titled Airbus representing the crash of Iran Air Flight 655.
The story is about Irans civilian jet airliner that was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes on the way of Bandar Abbas to Dubai over the Persian Gulf on July 3, 1988.
While the incident led to death of 290 passengers with various nations including 66 children, it was named one of the deadliest disasters in aviation history.
The U.S. government has refused to apologize for the incident, claiming that the crew had mistaken the Iranian Airbus A300 for an attacking F-14 Tomcat fighter.
Irans Visual Media Institute in collaboration with the American-Canadian company Reel Knights Productions are in charge of the film production.
Directed by Irans Nader Talebzadeh and American filmmaker Paxton Winters, the film bridges story from the east with skills of the west.
Iranian actress and screenwriter Mina Masoumi and the American documentarian and telefilm producer Scott J.T. Frank jointly wrote this cinematic projects script.
Some parts of the movie are programmed to be shot in the United States.
The 27-year-old filmmaker and actor, Sean Stone (son of legendary Hollywood actor Oliver Stone) became a Muslim and chose to be known by the Muslim first name Ali as announced during a religious ceremony held in the Iranian city of Isfahan in 2012.
He is a graduate of history from Princeton University and has collaborated on many of his father’s projects such as the 2004 Alexander. He has also directed a handful of documentaries.
