2 Held, DDC Constitutes Committee
SRINAGAR: Two urchins were arrested after they allegedly molested few school girls and beat a school teacher along with some students to pulp in South Kashmirs Kulgam district on Friday.
District Development Commissioner, Kulgam assured strict action against the culprits after the locals and students staged a mass protest before his office.
According to reports, scores of eve-teasers usually roam around Public School in Chhatabal area of Kulgam. Today few of them, taking advantage of Friday prayers, entered into the school premises and started molested some female students. No male staffer was present in the school as all of them had gone for Friday prayers, a teacher said.
When I objected they not only beat me up but also roughed up few innocent students, she said.
Six injured students were rushed to hospital. When the word spread in the area, parents and locals along with students staged a massive protest in front of the office of DDC Kulgam, Jehangir Ahmed Mir who instantly directed the police to nab the culprits.
Two goons Aqib Ahmed Khan and Suhail Ahmed Khan were arrested immediately while the hunt for others has been launched. We have registered a case in this regard, a police official said.
DDC Kulgam said that he has continuously been receiving such complaints from other areas as well. I have constituted a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gulzar Shabnam to look into the matter. I assure people of the district that a special drive will be launched against the eve-teasers and goons, he said.
Some of the injured students have been identified as Nusrat Jan daughter of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Shakir Ahmed Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat and Tabasum Jan daughter of Sabzar Ahmed Khan. (CNS)
