SRINAGAR: Police detained MLA Er Rasheed and baton charged his followers near Exhibition Crossing on Monday when he was moving towards Civil Secretariat to cordon Omar Abdullah on his arrival there for his alleged inability to take any action against the culprits involved in drug scam.
MLA Langete, had earlier, launched a scathing attack on the state government for its alleged failure to bring the culprits behind the spurious drug scam to justice and threatened to lay siege of the Civil Secretariat, not allowing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his colleagues to enter into the Secretariat.
Large contingents of police and CRPF personnel were deployed in and around Civil Secretariat to foil his march. Rasheed and his supporters were carrying placards and banners and as soon as they reached near Exhibition Crossing, police swung into action and stopped them from moving towards the Secretariat.
Rasheed was detained and taken to District Police Lines Srinagar, while his supporters were charged with batons. Two of the protestors, Farooq Ahmad Lone of Wadipora and Zahoor Ahmad of Sangrama were injured and later on hospitalized, one of the protestors said.
