SRINAGAR: The Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today arranged an interaction for its students with two noted journalists of the valley, Mr. Masood Hussain, Assistant Editor, Economic Times and Mr. Athar Parvaiz, Correspondent Inter Press Service, Italy, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
Interacting with the students, Mr. Masood Hussain emphasised that a journalist needs to or can exercise his freedom of expression only after his understanding of the existing socio-political structures has grown beyond the daily journalistic routines. He, however, cautioned the students that any such exercise of ones rights entails a cost, especially in a conflict zone.
Mr. Athar Parvaiz talked about the need to make a conscious decision about what kind of reporting one should do keeping in view the pressures one faces in a place like Kashmir. He also advised the students to share sensitive stories with some colleague, close associate or friend while working on them.
