SRINAGAR: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday once again urged India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue amicably.
Addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz stressed on the need for a lasting solution to the long-standing dispute.
Asserting that time was ripe for India and Pakistan to listen to the voices of the people and end the political deadlock on the issue, Mirwaiz said: We want a solution to the Kashmir issue. We want a solution that takes into account the views and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The time has come for the governments of India and Pakistan to make a new beginning and formulate a way to resolve the crisis in Kashmir in a friendly and amicable manner, keeping in mind the wishes and hopes of the people.
Expressing grief over the death of Sarabjit Singh in Pakistani prison, Mirwaiz hailed the government of Pakistan for handing over Sarabjits body to his family. However, he said that it was really a sorry state that the body of Shaheed Afzal Guru was not given back to his family. Whole country, including the Indian civil society mourns the death of Sarabjit Singh and have raised hue and cry, but the same people celebrated the death of Afzal Guru and maintained silence over the issue. This speaks volumes and even Kashmiri people are not allowed to register peaceful protests, he said.
Mirwaiz also condemned the attack on Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullha Haq and said that such kind of incidents deteriorate the relations between the countries and as result of that a common Kashmiri suffers. He demanded the urgent release of Kashmir leaders and youth lodged in different jails of India and urged upon the government to take every step for their safety. All Kashmir people languishing in different jails of India should be brought to Kashmir without any delay, Mirwaiz said.
Referring to the changing world scenario, Mirwaiz said, We have been witnessing some promising changes at the global level and the International community has accepted that any solution to any problem is possible through peaceful dialogue only.
Mirwaiz said that these changes amply demonstrate the fact that genuine movements cant be suppressed by the use of force. If India and Pakistan are sincere in resolving the long pending Kashmir issue then Hurriyat Conference will cooperate with both the countries, he said.
Meanwhile he condemned the arrest of Yasin Malik.
It is highly condemnable that Malik was arrested and he was stopped from holding peaceful protest in Delhi. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When you will not allow people to register a peaceful protest then they are bound to adopt different means, he said.
