SRINAGAR: A visiting high-level team of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on Tuesday toured Srinagar and Bandipur to review progress on power projects funded under the prime ministers reconstruction programme
The team also received briefings on measures to improve the power transmission and distribution system in Srinagar and Bandipur, reports said.
State power bosses are slated to meet the CEA chairman in New Delhi on May 8 for key discussions over issues related to electricity supply in Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities peg transmission and distribution losses at around 58 per cent in the chronically power-starved state.
The CEA team, led by director VK Mishra, is visiting to monitor progress on nearly 40 mini hydel projects worth Rs 1300 crore under the Prime Ministers Reconstruction Programme (PMRP)
The visit comes close on the heels of severe power crisis earlier this month when the PDD resorted to massive curtailment over and above heavy winter-time outage.
A majority of the PMRP-funded projects are said to be incomplete past the deadline of 2013, and the transmission and distribution system has shown only marginal improvement despite an expenditure of Rs 1400 crore, sources said.
