SRINAGAR: Agriculture and allied departments should put all available resources for the overall benefits of farming community, this was stated by Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon while reviewing the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Scheme Rashtriya Kissan Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
Dr. Samoon said that initiatives need to be implemented in a mission mode, so that benefits reach the targeted population engaged in Agriculture and allied sectors. He said that there is lot of scope under various sectors like Apiculture, Mushroom, Vegetables, Floriculture, and Dairy Farming in the valley that needs to be harnessed. He advised the officers to shun the culture of compartmentalization and work in convergence in a mission mode to harness the available potential. He also emphasized the need to focus on areas with specific potential for devise of various schemes. He asked officers to fix only demand driven targets under the schemes by which farming community being benefited, besides funds utilized by the departments within the targeted period strictly. He said that effective implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, in a time bound manner, and is imperative for creating positive impact.
He urged the officers of Agriculture Department to strive for Seed Replacement Rate (SRR) in respect of all crop particularly maize. He was informed that under RKVY fund released during 2012-13, Rs. 2631 crore under RKVY (normal) which include National Mission of Saffron, Vegetable initiative for Urban Clusters and National Mission for Protein Supplement out of which Rs. 2143 crore have been expended.
Among others, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Mr. Mushtaq Peerzada, Director Command Area, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Mir, Director Animal Husbandry, Director Sheep Husbandry, Joint Director Floriculture and Chief Agriculture officers of Agriculture department were present in the meeting.
