JAMMU -Describing National Conference as a movement of masses, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday exhorted people to further strengthen it for achieving larger objective of making Jammu and Kashmir peaceful, progressive and prosperous State.
Welcoming Dr Surjit Bhagat, retired Divisional Manager Oriental Insurance Company and Dr Parvinder Bhagat, Asst Prof Jammu University in National Conference at an impressive function at Miran Sahib here this afternoon, Mr Rana said joining of veterans from different fields of life will make this movement cohesive and broad based.
He said history of the State is replete of instances how National Conference withstood the challenge of divisive elements and forged bonds of fraternity and brotherhood among various segments of society even during most horrendous times.
These elements are active even now though in different guises, bent upon to create a wedge between the people to further their political interests, he cautioned.
In this context, he referred to the recent bonhomie between the Peoples Democratic Party and Bharataya Janata Party, which publicly exposed their clandestine objective of dividing the people of the State on communal and regional lines to achieve their nefarious political agenda. For weakening National Conference they joined hands during elections to the Legislative Council, he maintained.
For the lust of power, these two partieswhich are in fact two faces of the same coincan go to any extent, he said and called upon the people to remain vigilant by their machinations.
Rana said also cautioned against the attempts being made by vested interests to disrupt peace by raising emotive slogans and reiterated that National Conference will foil these with the active support of the people. They will not be allowed to derail peace and the process of development going across the state, he added.
Peace and tranquility has become an eyesore for the opposition parties who see their space shrinking in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, he said and referred to the hue and cry being raised by Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatya Janata Party over non-issues to hoodwink the public opinion.
He said the tactics being employed by these parties stands testimony to the level of frustration they face particularly in the wake of more and more people coming into the fold of National Conference.
