SRINAGAR: Sticking to their guns over demands to remove bunkers and paramilitary camps in the area, traders shut down business in the Old City for the fourth day running on Monday, holding sit-ins at several places.
Though district police and civil authorities have appealed for opening the markets, assuring that the demand would be looked into, the trading community has vowed to continue its strike until the bunkers are shifted.
Busy commercial centres of Gojwara, Nauhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Maharaj Gunj, Kaw Dara, Nallah Maar Road, Bohri Kadal, Zaina Kadal and Kadi Kadal have been closed since Saturday.
Traders are also protesting against the use of pepper gas on protestors, saying its pungent fumes caused severe health problems among locals in the congested area.
They have said that an ailing Old City woman has died recently after inhaling the heavy fumes.
