SRINAGAR: Panic gripped an Anantnag hospital on Monday when an unidentified woman made off with a new-born baby by snatching it from the arms of its cousin,
The 8-day-old boy had been brought to the hospital for a medical check-up.
According to reports, Muhammad Shafi Khan of Kokernag had come to the hospital with his new-born son at around noon, and handed the baby over to his niece, Shakeela, who accompanied him, while he went to fetch the registration card.
According to young Shakeela, an unknown woman accosted her, took the infant away forcibly and fled.
Though the girls screams alerted passers-by, the child-snatcher managed to flee from the scene along with her catch.
The police has launched a hunt for the woman after registering a case.
