SRINAGAR: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a 22 year old youth in Sopore on Tuesday night sparking tension in the area, late night reports said.
Gunmen fired upon Suhail Ahmed Sofi, son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi at Kandr Mohalla Doabgah around 10:00 pm from a close range and escaped.
Sofi was hit in the head and died on the spot.
Locals said Sofi was shot dead soon after he came out of a local mosque where a group of clerics from Maharashtra were holding an Ijtema.
After the incident police and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area and launched searches to track the assailants.
