SRINAGAR: Even as a son clobbered his mother to death in the northern Kupwara district, a South Kashmir resident badly injured by his elder brother passed away at the SKIMS on Monday after battling for life for several days.
Muhammad Shafi Bhat was said to have been severely beaten up recently by his elder brother Ghulam Nabi in his home in the Akud village of Anantnag over a property dispute.
Ghulam Nabi has been taken into custody under charges of murder and attempted murder.
A father of three children, Bhat was lured into a cowshed by his elder brother where he was beaten up, locals said.
The incident comes close on the heels of the killing of a woman by her son in North Kashmir.
Official sources said that Reshma Jan was hit by her son Latief Ahmad Khan after some argument at village Kawri in Kupwara.
She was immediately rushed to the local hospital from where she was referred to SKIMS in Srinagar where she breathed her last.
Police have registered a case and initiated proceedings, but it was not clear whether any arrests had been made.
