SRINAGAR: Shaheed Gunj police has registered a case and begun investigations over the death of a pregnant woman during surgery at a private city nursing home.
The family has alleged negligence by doctors who had called Rehana, married barely 10 months ago, for delivery at the Sheikh-ul-Aalam nursing home at Karan Nagar on March 5.
We were told nothing by doctors, even when the surgery took an inordinately long time, but were handed a new-born baby and told to shift it to the Childrens Hospital, Rehanas brother said.
During our long wait outside the operation theatre, a police party arrived at the hospital, and it was only after we forced the surgery door open that we find my sister lying dead on the table, he said.
A post mortem of the patient at the JLNM Hospital the next day showed a roll of gauze left inside her body, clearly indicating negligence by the surgeon, Dr. Parveen Reshi, and her team, he said, appealing to the chief minister and the health minister to seal the nursing home.
