Its enough now. Kashmiris want peace and no one should be given an opportunity to derail the peace process between India and Pakistan, Gul told Srinagar based news agency CNS adding that as a Speaker he will perform his duties as per his ability.
He said that time has come that India and Pakistan should go for a result oriented dialogue without wasting time. People of Kashmir wish that both the countries should have result oriented dialogue on Kashmir. Kashmir issue has let people suffer in state and it need to be resolved, Gul said.
Newly elected Speaker said he hopes Opposition parties in the Assembly will play a constructive role and will raise the issue related to public. As a Speaker I will be impartial as both ruling and opposition parties will be same for me. I hope that Opposition parties will raise public issues so that grievances of the people can be redressed, Gul said.
Deserved Speakers assignment: Omar
Earlier Gul was escorted to the speakers chair by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after he was elected by the house through a voice vote. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah moved a motion to elect Gul as Speaker, which was seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand. Pertinently, members of the main opposition party PDP were not present in the house at the time of election. They boycotted the Governors address in protest against hanging of Guru and the resulting situation.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah showered praises on newly elected Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul. He was speaking after Gul assumed the chair in the Legislative Assembly here during the first day proceedings of the House.
Omar Abdullah said that the seniority and experience of Gul makes him the choicest person to hold the respected chair of Speaker in the Legislative Assembly. He said four time Legislator, Gul has rendered valuable assistance to him as his Advisor. He also recalled his long association with Gul and said that when Mubarak Gul was visiting his house to meet Dr. Farooq Abdullah, he used to take away his motor bike and empty its fuel tank taking long rides.
I was in search of the occasion when Guls contribution and service to the society could be recognized, he said adding that by the election of Mubarak Gul to the chair of Speaker Legislative Assembly today, the contribution and calibre of Gul has been recognized as he deserved this the most.
