SRINAGAR: Contradicting a statement by the Hurriyat (G), its constituent, the Muslim League, on Tuesday said that it was present in Mondays meeting of the United Consultative Council (UCC) in which the newly-formed body announced its campaign to demand the return of Muhammad Afzal Gurus body.
Muslim League general secretary Abdul Ahad Parra said that the party had attended the UCC meet on the instructions of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Muhammad Ashraf Sahrai.
I was in direct contact with Geelani, and it was he who issued instructions on attending the meeting, Parra said.
In a statement yesterday, the Hurriyat (G) general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, had said that the alliance had not been contacted and none of its representatives was present in the two meetings the UCC held since being formed.
The Hurriyat (G), however, said that it would not oppose the programme issued by the UCC.
Announcing its first protest programme over the Guru issue yesterday, the UCC had said that the Hurriyat (G), the Hurriyat (M), the JKLF, the Jamaat-e-Islami, the Bar Association, and the Dukhtaran-e-Millat had attended the meeting where the decision was taken.
