SRINAGAR: In an unexpected development, the Hurriyat (G) has disassociated itself from the campaign schedule announced today by the newly-formed United Consultative Council, but said that the faction would not oppose it.
No representative of the Hurriyat (G) was present in the UCC meetings either yesterday or today, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat spokesman Dr. Ghulam Nabi Ganai was quoted by the KNS as having said.
We were not contacted in connection with the agitation calendar, he said, adding that he was making the statement on behalf of the Hurriyat (G) general secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi.
However, we will not oppose the programme, he said.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani continues to be held under house arrest in New Delhi, and Muhamad Ashraf Sahrai has been shifted to the Central Jail after being taken into custody.
When contacted, Sumjhi said that he had no knowledge of the protest calendar, and that he had not been taken into confidence.
