SRINAGAR: Terming the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru as unfortunate, the chairman of the JKLF, Muhammad Yasin Malik, today said that the parliament attack- accused Kashmiri was hanged by the same mindset that assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
It is unfortunate that Gurus mercy petition was dismissed and he was hanged in secrecy, Malik, who is in Pakistan, was quoted by reports as having said.
Guru had a constitutional and legal right to go again to the court after the dismissal of his mercy petition but he was not given that opportunity, he said.
The mindset that killed Gandhi has led to the hanging of Afzal Guru, he said.
Only the Shiv Sena, the Bajrang Dal, and the RSS demanded that Guru should be hanged, he said.
Was the decision to send Guru to the gallows taken to satisfy the conscience of these extremists? he asked.
It was the same ideology and the same people who killed Gandhi, he said.
