Mahbooba Went To Town Only After Omar Opposed Execution
SRINAGAR: Claiming that cases against Muhammad Afzal Guru, who was executed on February 9 in the parliament attack case, were filed during PDP rule, the National Conference on Tuesday asked the opposition party to come clean on its role in his eventual hanging.
The NC said that PDP leaders had begun their theatrics over Afzal Guru only after chief minister Omar Abdullah strongly opposed his hanging.
The PDP took the reins of the government on November 2, 2002, and only a month-and-a-half later, on December 8 2002, a death sentence was given to Afzal Guru. Would the PDP president mind explaining why all the cases against him (Guru) were framed only when they were in power, the CNS quoted the National Conference spokesman, Tanvir Sadiq, as having said in a statement.
If they were not a part of the decision to hang him, why didnt they speak against it then? he asked.
It was during the PDP regime when all the cases against Guru were confirmed. Mehbooba Ji and her PDP are now trying to shed crocodile tears to hoodwink the people by playing dirty politics in this situation and their statement reflects the height of opportunism, he said.
They had not uttered a word before this and chose to remain silent in the past as well but it was Omar Abdullah who made no secret of his opposition to the hanging, he said. That fact cant be changed or ignored, he said.
She and Mufti Sahib rushed to the media and started talking only after they heard that Omar Sahib has. She first watched the whole interview and then rushed to the media, proving how petty her politics is, he said.
Who are they befooling by their cheap theatrics? he asked.
They started talking about Afzal Guru only after the chief minister Omar Abdullah spoke on the issue, otherwise they were spectators taking sadistic pleasure out of the overall situation, he said.
All these people who are trying to don the mantle of a messiah, where were they when Afzal needed a lawyer? The people deserve to know where these leaders were when Afzal wasn’t receiving proper representation and had to rely on amicus curiae appointed by the courts?, he asked.
Let her (Mahbooba) not falsify her partys role in what happened. Let them come clean and say yes they are an accomplice in this decision since 2002 and are now shedding crocodile tears, because until they accept their own complicity, all this other talk of who am I or I cant do anything is just guilt-induced hogwash, she said.
