SRINAGAR: Terming arrest and detention of Independent MLA from Langate Engineer Rashid by state government as desecration of democratic institutions of the state, CPI (M) state secretary M Y Tarigami today called for immediate release of the legislator.
It is unfortunate that an honourable member of the Legislative Assembly is being put under arrest in a police station. Where is the morality and democracy gone?, asked Tarigami. What will be the fate of common people when an honourable MLA is kept under detention?, he added. Tarigami exhorted the state government to release Engineer Rashid from police custody without any further delay to maintain sanctity of democratic institutions of the state.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad said Engineer Rashid was lodged at Guest House. He has already left for his home, he informed.
