SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference has expressed grave concern at the continued state of virtual siege in Kashmir while calling the collective operational detention of seven million Kashmiris as inhumane and barbaric.
In a statement issued today, the spokesperson stated that National Conferences rhetoric defies the role it has chosen to play in the history of Kashmir. It is extremely ironic that Mustafa Kamal has the audacity to call others double agents while our history is a witness to the duality of purpose and Machiavellian politics of his own party, the National Conference. Mustafa Kamal would be well advised to read his history well and remember that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was one of the first sloganeers of secessionism in Kashmir and in fact it was Sheikh Abdullah who started the culture of receiving stipends from Pakistan in the 1940s, even post 1947, the statement said adding National Conference has never hesitated from bartering the lives and the fate of Kashmiri people for attaining self-seeking power and that trend continue to this day. The policy of ambiguity and ambivalence adopted by National Conference by having countless faces and countless voices to say contradictory things are juvenile and stands exposed for the umpteenth time in our history.
The spokesman said that by being a willing co-author of Afzal Gurus hanging, National Conference has yet again demonstrated its enthusiastic willingness to stoop to the lowest levels of indignity and treachery to safeguard its own political interests at any cost.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, as the patron of National Conference and its minister in the Union Cabinet has termed Gurus hanging as a closed chapter, while his son and the CM of J&K is speaking a different language in Kashmir. It seems that National Conference changes its morality and opinions with a change of geography, reads the statement adding The National Conference, being a part of the UPA and being at the helm of affairs in the State, is a co-author and accomplice in the political decision of hanging Mr. Afzal Guru. The party has three MPs and a Cabinet Minister in the UPA government and if, in fact, the party has reservations about the hanging of Mr. Guru whats stopping it from recalling Dr. Farooq Abdullah from the Central Cabinet and withdrawing support to the UPA?
NC wants to be a part of the UPA while feigning helplessness and expressing its reservations about UPAs collective political decisions at the same time. This ploy of trickery and drama is as old a trait of NC as its history of double-speak and gamesmanship.
The PC spokesperson asked for Curfew to be lifted from Kashmir without any further delay stating that people have no access to essential commodities. Parents of little children are struggling to find milk while the sick at home have no access to medicines and doctors. NC should come out of its delusions of coercion and should realize that pushing Kashmiris to the wall will not save it from being politically routed from this State in the near future.
Peoples Conference has also expressed its condolence with the families of the three youth that have lost their lives in firing and blatant use of excessive force by Security Forces in the past few days. The claim of exercising restraint has yet again been blown away as dozens of youth have been seriously injured in various parts of the Valley in the past 5 days, the spokesman added.
The PC spokesperson also asked for Afzal Gurus body to be handed over to his family for his last rites and burial in Kashmir. Gurus basic rights were violated by not informing his family or allowing him to meet his family before his execution and the Chief Minister could have facilitated this meeting or implored on his family being informed by the State Government but he brazenly chose not to do so, he said.
The PC spokesperson also lashed out at the State Government for an unofficial and obnoxious gag on media in the State. Terming the CMs denial of the gag as ridiculous and laughable, the PC spokesperson said that printing presses were raided and put under siege by the Police soon after the hanging of Afzal Guru.
Peoples Conference has demanded that restrictions on the media be lifted and withdrawn at the earliest.
