SRINAGAR: The state of virtual siege and curfew in Kashmir is a gross suppression of justice and the rights of the Kashmiri people, Peoples Conference Chairman, Sajad Lone said today. Lone in a statement said, “The people were going through unimaginable suffering as they have no access to even the most essential commodities in most areas of the Valley. Little children have no milk to drink and sick patients have absolutely no access to medicine or hospitals as seven million Kashmiris have been put under a collective house-arrest as if every Kashmiri is presumed to be a vicious, dangerous threat”. There has been no relaxation in the curfew and so far three young Kashmiris have lost their lives and scores stand injured.
Sajad Lone stated that it was tragic that iron-fist official and unofficial gags have been placed on the media in the State and there is absolutely no talk of the undemocratic siege in Kashmir on TV Channels.
Sajad Lone also expressed concern over the continued detention of MLA Langate, Engineer Rasheed since the last four days at Handwara. Engineer Rasheed is as much a legislator of the State Assembly as Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. If legislators of NC and PDP, despite their self-seeking roles in the suppression of Kashmiris, can mourn the hanging of Azal Guru why are there a different set of rules for Engineer Rasheed? Stating that the suffocation of democratic expression has and will always yield counterproductive results, Sajad Lone asked the National Conference to finally introspect and realize that it has far too many faces to be trusted. The engineered dual-speak in National Conference is in line with its ambiguous and ambivalent role in the history of Kashmir post 1947.
Sajad Lone also said that the family of Afzal Guru has a right to receive his body and give him a proper burial in Kashmir. We demand that the body of Afzal Guru be handed over to his family for his last rites.
