NEW DELHI: Family of Afzal Guru will take legal recourse to get his body for a proper burial in his home state, a cousin of Guru said today.
Lawyers of Afzal Guru Advocate Nandita Haksar and Advocate N.D. Panchali said that they both went to Tihar Jail early in the morning with a written application seeking that last rights of the Guru should be performed by his (Gurus) relatives.
We wanted to move an application before the jail authority on behalf of Gurus family. We were made to wait for two hours and after that our application was received. To perform last rights is the religious right of the relatives, said lawyers.
When asked whether the family of Guru demanded his body, It has to be decided by his family, they replied.
Elder cousin of Guru Haji Farooq Ahmad Guru said that efforts will be made to bring the body to his ancestral land. Weve decided to follow the legal procedure to get the body of Shaheed Afzal.
