JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing Inter Battalion and Inter Zone Sports Tournaments-2013 at Jammu. 2800 players are participating in the Tournaments being held from March 2nd to 7th and April 2nd to 6th, 2013 respectively.
The arrangements for the tournaments were finalized at a senior officers meeting held at Armed Police Headquarters (APHQ) here this evening. The meeting was chaired by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, Mr. K. Rajindra Kumar.
Mr. Rajindra, deliberating on the objectives of the tournaments said that such events help to cultivate sports talent within the department and boosts the talented players to reshape their skill. He said that such events also provide an opportunity to the sports persons to get together and participate in the different sports activities, strengthening their spirit of sportsmanship and discipline. He said that JKP has been organizing such events regularly and our players have excelled at national level also, bringing laurels for the Organisation.
The ADGP, stressed upon the committees constituted for making arrangements to work in close coordination for smooth conduct of the tournaments. He said that in the Inter Battalion Tournament 28 Battalions of IRP and Armed police would be participating. Similarly in the Inter Zone Tournament all wings of the Organization would participate in the 5 day long sports event. He said that all necessary arrangements for boarding and lodging of the players would be made well in advance. A Police Sports Control Room would be established to coordinate among the organisers and participating teams round the clock.
Giving further details, Mr. Rajindra disclosed that 1500 men and 300 women players would take part in different disciplines of 6 day long Inter Battalion Tournament. 800 sports person including 200 women players are participating in the Inter Zone Tournament representing all wins of the Organization. Main venue of the tournaments would be Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground and varied disciplines including basket ball, volley ball, football, hand ball, tug of war, boxing, wrestling, weight lifting, swimming, shooting, hockey and kabbadi. Some field and track events including marathon, shot put, hammer throw, javelin throw, discuss throw, long jump, and high jump would be part of the tournaments. In all 2800 players and athletes representing various wings and units, including the officers would excel in the events, which also include badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and shooting. The events would be played on knock out basis as per the rules laid down by All India Police Sports Control Board.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IsGP, Mr. Arun Kumar, Mr. A. G. Mir and Yoginder Koul, DIsGP, Mr. T. Punchok, Mr. A. S. Bali, Mr. J. P. Singh, Mr. Johny William and Mr. R. P. Resutra, Deputy Director, Youth Services and Sports, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Joint Secretary JK Sports Council, Mr Sidharat Sharma, Sports Officer J&K Sports Council, Mr Ravi Singh and other police offices.
