JAMMU: Police busted a fake document racket and arrested two people, including a constable of Indian Reserve Police, in this winter capital of the state.
“A car was intercepted at a nakka laid last night near Gulshan Ground and on seeing the security personnel, the driver tried to give a slip but was arrested after a hot chase,” a police spokesman here said.
He said during frisking, fake documents for license, passport forms, documents belonging to Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), six stamps and two police badges were recovered from the vehicle.
“Both the persons identified as Sheraj Ahmed Mir (RET teacher), resident of Sangote, Tehsil Mendhar, district Poonch and a constable Ishtiaq Ahmed, deployed with IRP 17th battalion were arrested on the spot,” the spokesman said.
He said during investigation it was found that the accused used to stay in official quarters of a lady constable at Gulshan Ground and was involved in running a racket of preparing and issuing fake licenses and other documents.
A case under relevant sections has been registered and the matter was being investigated as his involvement in other cases cannot be ruled out, he added.
