SRINAGAR: A North Kashmir youth who had faked his arrest and said that he was being tortured in a forces camp has been recovered by the Baramulla police from the house of a relative, authorities said on Tuesday.
Protests broke out near Kunzar today with villagers blocking the Gulmarg road after the youths family filed a report with the police that Muhammad Yasin Mir had been arrested by some security agency in Khag last night.
Tensions had mounted when Mir made a call to his friend Manzoor Ahmad Waza in his native Utika village in Kunzar on Monday night that he was being tortured in some unknown security forces camp.
People calling back found Mirs phone switched off after the call.
Acting on the report filed by his family, the Kunzar police tracked Mir to the house of a relative in Shirpora, Pattan.
According to the police, investigations showed Mir had played the hoax to settle a dispute with his father.
