SRINAGAR |Western Disturbance is developing over Jammu and Kashmir and likely to affect the state and adjoining areas from this evening till morning of January 19, according to Met department today.
The Met office has issued a weather advisory that a strong Western Disturbance, originating in Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan is approaching the region. However, it will be mainly active tomorrow and day after tomorrow.
Because of moisture incursion from Arabian Sea, some places of Pirpanjal range and plains of Jammu is likely to receive heavy snowfall and rainfall during these days.
In view of the forecast for heavy to very heavy snowfall in the upper reaches, particularly in Pirpanchal area, including Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the authorities have decided to close the road, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, for two days from tomorrow as a precautionary measure.
Due to this weather system, moderate to heavy snowfall over hills and rains in plains will occur at most places of Jammu and Kashmir regions and at a few places over Ladakh region.
He said during these days the maximum temperature will fall by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius while the night temperature will rise by 1 degree to 2 two degrees Celsius. Sun was out this morning after people witnessed above normal night temperature.
