SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the state government asking it to explain why detained Muslim League deputy chief Masarat Aalam Bhat had not been released despite the Public Safety Act (PSA) cases against him having been quashed five times.
The SC has asked the state government to file its reply within four weeks, the ML acting general-secretary, Abdul Ahad Parru, said.
Bhats family had approached the SC after authorities in Jammu and Kashmir refused to let him go despite orders from the states courts, he said.
The ML deputy chief has been shifted to the Jammu Medical College Hospital from the Kathua Jail, he said.
