SRINAGAR: Holding the state and central governments responsible for non disbursement of salaries in favour of Sarva Shikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, Director SSA Yasha Mudgal today said that the state Government was facing financial crisis which had resulted in the authorities becoming helpless.
However, Director School Education Mohammad Shafi Rather said that the salaries of SSA teachers would be released within weeks.
When asked about the reasons for non-release of salaries to the SSA teachers and other employees in various districts of the Valley, Mudgal said, I dont have funds. It is better to go and ask Chief Minister who is also holding education portfolio. I fail to understand why media is blaming me. It is State Government which is to be blamed.
Im conducting interviews of candidates right now. Ive no role in stopping the salaries of these teachers. It is the State and Central Governments who are to be blamed for financial crises, she replied. Media should not blame us (bureaucrats) for the faults of State Government, she added.
Meanwhile, Director Education Mohammad Shafi Rather said that the salaries of the teachers would be released within a few weeks. Sometimes it happens and we were on the job to redress the grievances of these teachers. Salaries would be released within some weeks, he said.
Pertinently, a section of government teachers working under (SSA) at Kunzar, Anantanag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Srinagar and Tangmarg are without salaries for past few months.
The teachers working in varius schools recruited under SSA, a centrally sponsored scheme, have not been paid salaries for the last several months.
Highly placed sources in the education department, told KNS that the issue was not restricted to some districts but there are several schools under SSA in the state where the teachers have not been given the salary for the past few months.
Due to failure of concerned authorities in submitting the Utilization Certificates (UC) regarding SSA by the state government on time, the salaries of large number of employees have been lying pending from the last several months as the central government wants the states to submit the UCs first, the sources added.
They said that although, the district education authorities have submitted the SSA Utilisation Certificates (UC) on time but the delay is on part of the state government which has resulted into the problem due to which the Rehbr-e-Taleem teachers as well as the general line teachers of SSA have been facing lot of problems.
These teachers had held various protest demonstrations to press the authorities to for release of their salaries. Were facing hardships. Our families are dependent on our pay. If authorities fail to release our salaries immediately well go for indefinite strike and protest, said SSA the protesting teachers. (KNS)
