SRINAGAR: The Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, G N Qasba has called upon field functionaries of the corporation to ensure daily and regular lifting of samples of food items from various city markets.
According to SMC spokesperson, Qasba in a meeting held with all the Food Inspectors of the Corporation along with the Health Officer emphasized on the proper and effective implementation of provisions of Food Safety and Standard Act-2006.
Expressing a major concern over the food safety measures, Dr Qasba instructed the Food Inspectors to ensure lifting of samples every day from the food establishments/ units and also from such units where food items are imported from outside the country, which shall be sent to the concerned laboratories for test results.
On finding any adulterated food item the offender shall be accordingly prosecuted under law, the spokesperson added.
Qasba asked the the Food Safety officers to conduct random checking of milk throughout the city on daily basis and all the substandard milk found shall be destroyed on spot.
The meeting was attended by Joint commissioner ( Adm)Fayaz Ahmed Balla, Secretary SMC Hilal Ahmed Deewani, Senior Law Officer Qazi Ashraf,Senior Standing Counsel Bashir Ahmed Khan.
