SRINAGAR: A government employee in Gandarbal is absconding after his fraud over his deceased mothers pension savings was discovered by bank officials.
Jana Begum, who died in 2007 just two years after her husband, had nearly Rs 3.5 lakh in her pension account when the fraud was unearthed recently.
Her son, Abd-us-Samad Bhat, who now faces a police case under sections 420, 460 and 471, had kept authorities in the dark about her death, and monthly pensions from her husbands government service went on accumulating for nearly five years.

A police constable, Basheer Ahmad, working as a munshi in the Kheer Bhawani precinct, has been placed under suspension for helping Bhat with the fake certificate on the basis of a false report by the village chowkidar.
The fraud was discovered by bank officials when Bhat came with a claim on his dead mothers account.
The managers investigations proved that the account-holder had died in 2007 and not in 2012 as Bhats certificate said.
He dropped out of sight just as the police registered a case of fraud against him, and authorities are conducting raids to trace him, reports said. KMN
