SRINAGAR: In an effort to spread awareness among masses about importance of safe drinking water, Communication and Capacity Unit (CCU) under National Rural Drinking Water Programme organized a water testing workshop at Government High School Lalan Anantnag. During testing, it was observed by the experts that tube well water was safer than the tap water supplied by the government to the locality.
Locals said, students, school staff and various locals were present during the programme. Water samples from tube wells, river, ponds and tap water was tested in front of participants and it was found that the water from tube well was much safer than the water supplied through taps in the locality, they said. Experts later on instructed the PHE authorities to ensure safe drinking water to the locality, they added.
Headmaster of school Ghulam Hassan Bhat said that in year 2011 chorea spread in the locality and one person had died while some of the affected were still suffering because of the disease, adding, Todays programme has paved way for people to know which water was safer. (KNS)
