JAMMU: Expressing deep concern at the increased incidents of ceasefire violation on Line of Control (LoC), CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has urged the leadership of both the countries to intervene to end the skirmishes between the troops.
While referring to latest exchange of fire in Uri sector of Baramulla district between India and Pakistan in which a residential house got partially damaged at Churunda village, Tarigami said the heads of the two neighbouring countries must arrest the down slide in border situation which has generated fear and panic among the people there. The CPI (M) leader said the border skirmishes – whoever is to blame, whatever the cause -risk the prosperity and security of two countries that have far more in common than the areas of suspicion and discard.
The CPI (M) leader said the silencing of guns along the border had made other important initiatives possible which included the trade and travel across the LoC. But unfortunately, the incidents of skirmishes and hostilities along the border derail the efforts leading towards formation of better understanding and amity between the two neighbouring countries, he stressed.
The CPI (M) leader said that for the last couple of years, despite many odds, there is a genuine commitment to better relations among political leaders in both New Delhi and Islamabad, although some sections of the society in both countries are skeptical given the long history of conflict and mutual suspicion. The tragedy of the fragile relations between these two neighbouring countries is that the painstaking progress at different levels can be overturned in an instant by violence. This for what, it is in the interests of the entire region, that the leadership of both the countries must rise to the occasion and ensure cessation of hostilities across the border, he stressed.
