SRINAGAR: Even as the victim of Wednesdays acid attack is set to be flown to Delhi for further treatment, her family said that the youth arrested as an accomplice of the perpetrator would turn states evidence and testify against his friend.
Muddassir Ahmad, also a Chanpora resident like the attacker, had been released from police custody last evening after questioning.
I was not aware of the intentions of my friend Riyaz. I accompanied him without knowing what he was upto. Had I known that he was going to commit such a heinous crime, I would have not allowed him to do so, Muddassir was quoted by the victims family as having said.
I talked to him (Muddassir) and he said that he would be the prime eyewitness to ensure justice to the victim, the victims brother said.
The deputy inspector general (DIG) of the police for central Kashmir, Syed Afhad-ul-Mujataba, said: Ive come to know that Muddassir tried to protect the girl when his friend committed this offence. Were investigating the case and no offence was established against him. If he is ready to be the prosecution witness, that is a good move.
Meanwhile, the victims brother said that his sister would be flown to New Delhi on Friday for treatment at the Apollo Hospital. The police has already given the go ahead for shifting the patient.
