SRINAGAR: The JKLF is to begin its jail bharo campaign this Friday to protest against death penalties and life sentences awarded to Kashmiri detainees recently, a spokesman said.
The ten-day programme, during which party leaders and activists will court arrest in bathces, was announced after two JKLF members were sentenced to life in prison by a court recently in a 22-year-old case pertaining to the killing of a member of the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to the party, which has termed the court decisions as judicial violence, its rank and file would offer themselves for arrest on Jan 4, Jan 7, Jan 9, Jan 11 and Jan 14.
The campaign is aimed at raising our voice against death penalties and life sentences issued against Kashmiris, and mobilise world opinion to get the trend stopped, the spokesman said.
It is meant to show solidarity with Kashmiri detainees imprisoned for years on end, and apprise the world about the plight they suffer due to severe physical and mental torture in custody, he said.
