SRINAGAR: While reiterating its demand for fair investigation into the recent Pulwama firing incident through a neutral agency, the Hurriyat Conference (G) has said that the announcement of inquiry by Omer Abdullah administration is only meant to pacify the furious people.
The conglomerate in a statement has said that in several such incidents not single personnel involved was registered or strict legal action taken or initiated against the perpetrators.
Hailing the people for observing complete shutdown on Monday, Hurriyat (G) Spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that people in state are worst victims of atrocities unleashed by Indian forces and we have no option, except to call for strike to register our protest.
In a press release on Monday, he said, Since last two decades hundreds such events were repeated, when forces went berserk and massacred and fired upon thousands of innocent people and after every protest, administration issued orders for the investigations. But with every passing day new tragedies take place and consequently the old cases get effaced from the memories. Files are closed and with the result the people have lost their faith in all these commissions
He said that Pulwama like tragedies will occur as long as the forces are there and added till then the lives and dignity of the people will remain at stake. Forces treat the Kashmiris as their slaves and they take it for granted to adopt the despotic measures against the people, he added.
Hailing the people for endorsing the protest call, the spokesman said that observation of protests is not a past time job nor is it a competition to score points. But we are left with no option other than to call people to mark their protest to convey the message to world
In democratic societies people protest on streets but in our state since 2010 restrictions are imposed. Instead of all these restrictions when people come out to mark their protest then Pulwama like situation arises, tragedies take place and people face indiscriminate firing. It is that Hurriyat conference has opted for peaceful protests and calls for shut down, otherwise there are other options and choices in civilized societies, Ayaz Akbar added.
