Bar, UJC Hail Wajahats Statement

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir High Court Bar Association has hailed the statement of Chairman National Commission for Minorities, Wajahat Habibullah, in which he has admitted that the Indian Army and the security forces were involved in cases rape and other human rights violations in Jammu & Kashmir and that no action has been taken against the guilty despite various FIRs filed against the Army & security forces in this regard.

Former J&K bureaucrat and the then advisor to State Governor has vindicated the stand of the Bar Association. The Bar Association has filed various writ petitions before the Honble High Court in this regard and enquiries have been conducted by the District and Sessions Judge wherein so many officers of Indian Army and Security Forces have been found guilty, but no sanction for prosecution has been granted by the Government of India against them till date, the Bar Association said in a statement issued here today.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir feel pain of the Delhi gang rape victim who has lost her life to sexual violence and accordingly the Bar Association condoles her death and the people of Jammu and Kashmir expect the security forces involved in sexual violence of the women in Jammu and Kashmir are arrested, prosecuted and punished under law as the offenders in Delhi gang rape case have been arrested with promptness, the statement added.

Meanwhile appreciating the statement of Minority Commission Chairman, Wajaht Habibullah in which he has questioned the silence of former Army Chief V. K. Sing over allegation of rape and molestation against armed forces in Kashmir, UJC supremo Syed Salahuddin has asked him to break silence.
