SRINAGAR: Even as top police officers defended the use of force in Pulwama, authorities have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the firing on civilians.
Crowds tried to stop vehicles carrying injured personnel to hospital, the police said.
The pelted stones on the vehicles, and refused to relent even after tear gassing, it said
The deputy commissioner for Pulwama, Shafaat Noor, said that a magisterial inquiry had been ordered in the use of force on, and injuries to, civilians.
He said that curfew had been imposed in Pulwama town after the situation deteriorated following clashes between demonstrators and forces personnel.
The step was taken to bring the law and order situation under control, and also, there were apprehensions that demonstrations would break out after Friday prayers, he said.
