SRINAGAR: Academic Staff College of University of Kashmir started a four week long UGC- General Orientation Course (GOC) for university and college teachers here today.
Registrar Kashmir University Prof Zafar A Reshi was the chief guest at the inaugural function.
Prof Rishi said that the main objectives of Academic Staff Colleges all over the country are to conduct specially designed Academic Staff Orientation programmes for the newly appointed teachers and refresher courses for serving teachers to keep abreast of the latest advances in various subjects, exchange expressions with their peers and learn mutually from each others.
Sharing personal experience with the students, Prof Rishi talked about the teachers who he said should be role models adding that the greatest satisfaction for a teacher is when a student feels that a teacher has been able to make a difference in his or her life . He asked the participants to make the orientation courses lively by entering into debates with the resource persons and try to share and consolidate their experiences during their stay at KU in the refresher course. Prof Rishi talked about the importance of the refresher course in the life of teachers and said that unless we do not refresh our skills and keep abreast with the changing trends in teaching pedagogy we can never be good teachers. He appreciated the role of ASC University of Kashmir in helping raise the standard of higher education in the state by imparting quality training teachers..
Dr Farooq Fayaz, Director, Academic Staff College in his address pointed out that several innovations were incorporated into this orientation course to provide the participants an opportunity to experience teaching-learning pedagogy in different settings and get accustomed to the advancements in multimedia, library and information sciences.
Dr Fayaz also took up the financial impediments in the way of the functioning of ASC KU with the Registrar who in turn assured his full support and cooperation to the director.
Recently evaluated by NAAC , ACS KU is playing a great role in teaching college and university teachers from varied fields to meet the changing demands of teaching .
