SRINAGAR: A section of Kashmirs Azadi Camp on Friday paid glowing tributes to Sofi Muhammad Akbar on the 25th anniversary of the Plebiscite Front leaders passing away.
Advocate Basheer Ahmad Bhat, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and a number of other leaders and activists held fateha khwani at Akbars grave site in Sopore, recalling his sacrifices for the Kashmir cause.
In a statement, the JKLF deputy chairman, Basheer Ahmad Bhat said that with his austere and saintly life, Sofi Akbar had proved that no power on earth could intimidate or cow down people wedded to truth and simplicity.
Nayeem Khan said that in spurning power politics by rejecting the Indira-Abdullah accord in 1975, Sofi Akbar had created history.
Shabir Ahmad Shah said that Sofi Akbar had upheld the honour and dignity of Kashmiri martyrs by refusing to compromise on his principles.
