SRINAGAR: In continuation with the anti-polythene drive, the committee constituted by the Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, Shafat Noor for the purpose launched a drive against the use of polythene in towns of Pulwama, Tral, Pampore and Awantipora. As many as three quintals of polythene bags were seized by the squads from different business establishments and fine was imposed on the erring traders on the occasion.
The District Development Commissioner has asked the Municipal Committees, students, Civil Society and common masses to refrain from the use of polythene besides stressed for ensuring awareness among the masses about the hazardous nature of polythene and its impact on choking and blocking the drains and other sanitary services in towns and villages of the district.
The District Development Commissioner has exhorted upon the checking squads and committees to make regular inspections of the markets for strict implementation of the act.
