SRINAGAR: The first ever 3-day, J&K Womens Science Congress organised by Department of Environment and Water Management and Department of Biotechnology, S.P. College in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science and Technology was held at S.P. College here today.
Minister for Science and Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi inaugurated the workshop while as Principal, S.P. College, Dr. N.A Gilkar presented welcome address on the occasion.
Addressing the inaugural session, the Minister emphasized upon teaching fraternity to make science a general subject for all classes of society, adding that Government is engaged in designing policies and programmes for the purpose, which would revolve around the development of science and technology.
Lauding the Organizers for holding the event, Syed Ruhullah asked the Principal, S.P. College to take this movement forward by formulating a proposal for popularising science subject among all the enthusiastic students of the State.
Citing examples of various prominent women scientists including Madam Curie, the Minister asked the women folk of the State to prove their mettle in various fields of science and technology by taking up the science stream from the very beginning of their academic career.
Enumerating various steps taken by present Government in creating scientific temperament among student community, Syed Ruhullah said that Government is providing sufficient funds to the educational institutions working for popularising science subject among the students. He assured the teachers and students that Government will always support the initiatives aimed at progress and prosperity of science subject.
Earlier, former Director, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical Centre, New Delhi, Dr. Daman Saluja presented Key note address.
The dignitaries released souvenir IQAC Newsletter on the occasion.
Dr. Seemin Rubab, National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal, Srinagar presented special address while as Director, CORD, University of Kashmir, Prof. Azra Nahaid Kamili presented thematic address.
