SRINAGAR – Barely a day after Hurriyat Conference (G) voiced its reservations about its visit to Pakistan asserting it would not be opportune in view of elections there, Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday said it would go ahead with its visit for an on-spot review of progress on finding the permanent and lasting solution to the vexed Kashmir dispute.
In its capacity as the real and representative leadership of Kashmiri people, Hurriyat Conference considers as extremely significant and having far-reaching consequences the proposed visit of its high-level delegation to Pakistan at the special invitation of the government of Pakistan when it will take an on-the-spot review of the progress on the permanent and lasting solution of the vexed Kashmir dispute, a spokesman of the conglomerate said in a statement.
He said Kashmir issue was hanging fire for a long time because of the aggressive and obstinate attitude of India. Because of this, the real and principal party to the dispute, the Kashmiri people, were suffering atrocities and hardships. Again, it is because of the lingering dispute over Kashmir that an atmosphere of tension prevailed between the two nuclear powers of the sub-continent with Kashmiri people bearing the brunt.
He said the basic objective behind Hurriyat Conference was to seek resolution of the Kashmir issue according to wishes and aspirations of people on the basis of United Nations resolutions or, alternatively, through tripartite engagement between India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir.
During its Pakistan visit, the delegation will meet with the leadership of ruling and opposition parties including various renowned personalities to review the progress in K-issue and to have an exchange of views with them, he said, adding several leaders of the conglomerate, including Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, had not been provided their passport and travel documents so far. He urged the authorities to issue the same early.
