SRINAGAR (ONS) – Syed Ali Shah Geelani is to lead a peace march in Old Srinagar on Wednesday to underline Shia-Sunni unity and amity in the wake of disturbance, the Hurriyat (G) said today.
Geelani and his associates will offer noon prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Habibullah Naushehri, and tour the trouble-hit areas on foot along with prominent members of both communities, it said.
The march is aimed to dispel misunderstandings created by rumour-mongering by miscreants, it said.
The alliance appealed for public cooperation to make the march a success, and asked people to come forward to defeat the nefarious designs of mischievous elements.
In a statement issued after a meeting of its majlis-e-shura today, the Hurriyat (G) expressed deep concern and anguish at recent incidents, and made a strong appeal to both Shia and Sunni communities to uphold unity, and not indulge in anything that could damage the Kashmir cause.
The incidents did not have religious differences as the cause, but were the result of rumour-mongering by certain elements which created misunderstandings between Shia and Sunni communities, the Hurriyat (G) majlis-e-shura said, stressing that Kashmir was known for its sectarian brotherhood and amity.
Certain pro-India politicians are out to exploit this situation and use it for their own vote-bank politics, it said.
This state of affairs is not in the interest of the national cause of the Kashmiri people, and we will shirk from no sacrifice to avert it, it said.
