SRINAGAR: Bakers in Kashmir have threatened an indefinite strike if the state government failed to meet their demands for price hike of breads within the next two days.
The president of Kashmir Bread Makers Association, Sofi Abdul Majid Pampori, said a meeting was held in the backdrop of earlier discussions with the minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Qamar Ali Akhoon.
Weve placed everything before him and if the authorities fail to meet our demands within two days as promised, KBMA will go on indefinite strike,,Sofi said. Asked if the meeting with CAPD minister was fruitful, he said, We dont have any hopes from what has been promised.
Meanwhile, in an effort to convince the authorities for revising the rates of Kashmiri bread, the KBMA today held a meeting with CAPD deputy director, Shafqat Iqbal, demanding a price hike in bread. Sources said that Iqbal assured the KBMA of sorting out the issue within two days.
The deputation told the deputy director that the existing price of breads was fixed in 2009 but since then the price of flour and firewood used in bread making has gone up warranting a price hike, sources added.kns
