SRINAGAR (KNS) – A Central Reserve Police Force trooper was killed Tuesday midnight near his camp at Bemina Bypass on the city outskirts.
Quoting CRPF spokesman, Sudhir Kumar, KMN said, some gunshots rattled the outlying city area at 2.30 a.m. on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday near the camp of Forces 73rd battalion (E Coy). He said suspected militants shot at him and managed their escape under the cover of darkness.
The trooper was shifted to the nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on way, Kumar said, adding the matter had been reported to the police.
However, without making any comment, police said a case had been registered and investigation launched in it.
Jamiatul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the firing saying one trooper had been killed and several others had been injured.
In another incident, two CRPF troopers and a student were injured in a grenade blast at Arwani in Anantnag district.
Reports said 13-year old school-goer identified as Umar Habib son of Habibullah of SICOP, Bijbehara, and two CRPF troopers identified as constable VNS Reddy and Som Dev Das, were injured in a grenade blast in Arwani Chowk near the highway town of Bijbehara.
Umar Habib and Som Das Dev have been shifted to SKIMS, Soura, where their condition was stated to be serious. Following the blast, all shops in the area downed their shutters while the movement of vehicular traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time.
