Says Geelani Not Sincere On Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 24: Asking Syed Ali Shah Geelani to study the history of Kashmir, senior NC leader and additional general secretary of the party Dr. Mustafa Kamaal on Saturday said that the separatist leader would have opposed accession to India right at the beginning had he been sincere.
Though Syed Ai Shah Geelani did not support Kashmirs accession to India, he did not oppose it as well, Dr. Kamaal said. He appears to be unfamiliar with historical facts. He should study Kashmir history to ascertain facts.
The NC leader said that the Hurriyat and separatism were surviving solely because of the Kashmir issue and militancy, and would cease to exist once the question was settled.
The separatists dont want the Kashmir issue to be resolved, because once that happens, their shops will get closed down, he said.
Advising the separatist leadership to hold talks with both, India and Pakistan, Dr. Kamaal asked why the Hurriyat was reluctant to engage with New Delhi when it talked so freely to Islamabad.
If, according to Geelani, India is the Evil Satan, he should say so to its leaders directly, and this is possible only when he meets them face to face, he said.
ON AFZAL GURU DEATH PENALTY
Dr. Kammal said that Muhammad Afzal Guru, pronounced guilty in the parliament attack case, had been awarded the death penalty because of religious discrimination.
Had Muhammad Afzal Guru been a non-Muslim, the situation would possibly have been quite different, he said.
Guru was supposedly held guilty on the basis of eyewitness accounts, even when at the end of the court hearings, it was said that he was not present at all at the site of the incident during the attack, he said. Observer News Service
