SRINAGAR (ONS) – Hurriyat (M) leader and president of the Anjuman-e-Sharaie Shiayan, Agha Syed Hassan on Friday said that the Ashura procession on Sunday would be taken out on its traditional route in central Srinagar irrespective of government curbs.
Agha Hassan asked people to defy restrictions and join the procession planned to emerge from the Abi Guzar area of the city centre.
We have repeatedly asked the government to come clear on its apprehensions over the traditional Muharram 8 and 10 processions, but it has failed to give any convincing answers, the Anjuman president said at Friday prayers in Budgam.
In this situation we have no option to defy government curbs and take out the Ashura procession, he said.
Agha Hassan severely condemned the government siege in central Srinagar today to foil the Muharram 8 march, saying that the ban on the religious event was unacceptable, and paid tribute to the spirit and sentiments of marchers who tried to take out the procession.
He deplored the terrorist attacks on Muharram gatherings in Pakistan where scores of mourners have been killed by bombings and firing.
