SRINAGAR – Stressing upon Indian leadership not to repeat mistakes of the past, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that hanging of 2001 parliament attack convict, Muhammad Afzal Guru will have disastrous consequences for the entire region.
Kashmiris were not familiar with any kind of violence and guns until father of Kashmiri nation Mohammad Maqbool Bhat was martyred by hanging him at Tihar Jail Delhi in 1984. History bears witness to the fact that after his hanging every Kashmiri household gave birth to thousands of Maqbool’s. If Indian state repeats its mistake and takes any wrong decision about Mohammad Afzal guru it will have disastrous consequences for the whole region, the JKLF Chairman said in a statement issued to KNS.
He said that after the hanging of Mohammad Ajmal Qasab, BJP has increased its rhetoric demanding hanging M Afzal Guru. Even some congress leaders are toeing this rhetoric. This has started a wave of concern through the minds and thoughts of Kashmiris, he said.
Referring to hanging of JKLF Founder Maqbool Bhat, Malik said, It is now history how Kashmiri’s followed their martyred leader and sacrificed tens of thousands of their people in the way of freedom.
Kashmiri’s in 2008 transformed themselves from violence to non violence and showed the whole world that they were a peaceful nation and if any wrong decision to Hang M Afzal Guru is taken, will cast a serious dent in this process of positive transformation and a new era of violence may start which will endanger and jeopardize peace, stability and prosperity of not only Kashmir but the whole sub continent.
Yasin Malik said that Indian leaders in order to score political points in coming elections are increasing their rhetoric for hanging Afzal Guru. We will only advice them to apply their minds and shun the path of poisoning the public sentiment regarding such sensitive issues. Kashmiri’s will not be mere spectators and silent if any wrong decision regarding M Afzal Guru is taken .we advice the leaders of India and their parties to go for elections with the agenda of peace, prosperity and welfare of the masses ,not with the agenda of scoring pity political gains and putting the whole region in danger.
Yasin Malik hoped that wisdom and humanity will prevail and no such decision will be taken that may put the peace, stability, prosperity and welfare in danger.
I hope Indian leadership will realize the gravity of the situation and the ugly rhetoric of hang Afzal will stop, added Yasin Malik.
According to the statement, Yasin today telephoned several Indian civil society leaders and concerned people regarding the matter and informed them about the anxiety of the people of Jammu Kashmir in this regard. JKLF will soon formulate a unified strategy and plan of action regarding this sensitive matter, added Yasin Malik.
Pertinently, leaders from BJP and Congress has Wednesday demanded expediting hanging of Afzal Guru in the backdrop of Ajmal Amir Kasabs hanging. Even the Home Minister, Shushil Kumar Shinde had told reporters that he would clear his (Gurus) file as soon as he received it.
