SRINAGAR (ONS) – Contesting New Delhis takes on the heavy tourist influx to Kashmir, chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the current boom in the sector should not be equated to normalcy or to infer that no problem had been left unsolved.
The revival of tourism should not be equated with normalcy as the two possess different parameters, Abdullah said at a seminar organized by the Kashmir Hoteliers and Restaurateurs Association at the SKICC. Weather 1000 tourists visit the state or 13 lakh, it will not determine normalcy and resolution of all problems.
Tourist flow is merely an economic activity and should be seen in that perspective only. The influx of a large number of visitors does not substantiate that no problem has been left unsolved in the state, he said.
The two have different genesis and cannot be equated at all, he said.
The revival of tourism can surely be associated with economic prosperity and generation of substantial employment even for people without specialized skills, he said.
The chief minister said that the arrival of about 13 lakh visitors this year so far indicated the substantial upward trend in tourist interest to visit the Valley during all seasons.
Up to the mark service delivery by all stakeholders in the sector holds the key to rope in conventional and high-end tourists in the state, he said, stressing on upgrading the status of services and facilities for visitors round the year.
