Srinagar – With Sonzal fever gripping the University of Kashmir during second day, around 20 participants today enthralled the audience, by performing in various genres of music at the 5-day Intra-University Youth Festival, Sonzal-2012 here.
Participants from the University and affiliated colleges showcased their talent in various categories like classical, light and western vocal solos, group song and instrumental. The event was judged by prominent Kashmiris singer, Waheed Jeelani and Shahid Gous.
Three more events were also held. Cartooning competition with the theme recent in news. The evened was adjudged by artists like Mohammad Yousuf Naqshbandi and Akhter Rasool.
Most of the participants highlighted the issue of LPG subsidy cap in their cartoons. Elocution competition was held at Gandhi Bhawan and 14 participants debated about Relevance of social networking sites on modern world. The event was judged by Prof Lily Want, Senior Prof Dr. Iqbal Qureshi and Syed Suhail Hussain.
The last event of the day was Clay Modelling and it was held in The Business School of the varsity. 19 participants carved images out of clay on the topic of Affection. Mostly motherly love and affection was depicted in the sculptures. The event was judged by a renowned sculptor Mohammad Iqbal, artists Mohammad Yousuf Nashbandi and Akhter Rasool. In elocution Competition Mohammad Shahkar Wani( Kashmir University), Junaid Yaseen (Islamia College)/ Osmania Malik (Govt Degree College for Women, M.A. Road) and Naira Shah (Kashmir University)were declared as the winners. In light vocals Mohammad Ammar (SSM College) Bushra Ishtiyaq (FMFA) and Uzma Ishtiyaq (FMFA) were adjudged as the winners whereas in Group Song category participants from Kashmir
University, Gandhi Memorial College and SSM College were declared as the winners. In Western Vocal Solo Syed Zuhaib (SSM), Javaid Bhat (Kashmir University) and Umer bin Nishat (Asian Institute of Medical Science)were the winners.
In Cartooning Competition Saqib Mohammad (FMFA) Zahoor-ud-din Lone (FMFA)and Mohammad Zubair (FMFA) were declared as the winners. Earlier on the inaugural day, two competitions were held. In quiz competition, Syed Abdul Basit Andrabi of SSM Collage was declared as winner while as Malik Javaid Ahmad of KU and Mohammad Shahkar Wani of KU got 2nd and 3rd positions. Environment, Saqib Mohammad Bhat, Zahoor-u-din lone and Nowsheen Nazir, all the competitors of Institute of music and fine Arts got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively.
